Liberator Sarah Hoxworth used to organize events. Now she organizes people’s homes.

What attracted you to organizing?

Previously, I did event planning, marketing and donor relations for a nonprofit company.  However, most of my “work” experience has been in “motherhood.”  I am a very naturally organized person, and found myself organizing all the time.  Making it my career was a natural jump;  I find joy in helping create more organized, peaceful spaces for others.

What are your hobbies/interests outside of organizing?

I enjoy jogging, tennis, bargain shopping, eating frozen yogurt and having quality time with my friends and family.

What would your clients be surprised to learn about you?

I enjoy doing premarital counseling for young couples alongside my husband.

What is your favorite way to relax/’guilty pleasure’?

Eating a delicious meal that someone ELSE prepared, including dessert – anything dark chocolate please!  I also really enjoy reading a good book on marriage, parenting or theology.

Do you have a favorite organizing tip?

I picked this up from a co-worker.  She suggested putting small bins/baskets at the foot of the stairs for each child who has a bedroom upstairs.  Have each child’s bin be a different color, or have their initials on it.  Since the child will likely bring their belongings down to the main floor, the bin creates an easy way to sweep up all their things that don’t belong there.  Before bed, each kiddo takes up their bin and unloads the items into their bedroom.

What’s your biggest organizing challenge in your own home?

My teenager’s  room…can I get an “amen” from any mother out there?!  He isn’t a huge fan of my suggestions to bring more order into his domain.  One day, he exclaimed, “Mom, you’re too organizey!”

What would you tell a client nervous about hiring a professional organizer for the first time?

Go for it! Though it may feel awkward to reach out for help, the RESULTS are SO WORTH IT.
