What Is A Professional Organizer?

According to the National Association of Professional Organizers (NAPO) “A professional organizer enhances the lives of clients by designing systems and processes using organizing principles and by transferring organizational skills.” In addition, “Professional organizers help individuals and businesses take control of their surroundings, their time, their paper, and their systems for life.” Okay, that sounds nice and formal, but here is what a professional organizer does in layman’s terms: Organizers help you clear your clutter, set up systems, and create time management processes in a quicker more effective way than most individuals can do on their own. We work with you to help you to learn new skills, strategies, and habits to create the orderly household and life you’ve been dreaming of.

Are All Major Organizers® Organizers Neat Freaks That Will Come In To My Home And Make Me Throw Out Things That Are Important To Me?

No. We train all of our organizers to listen to you, the client. We learn about your priorities and goals, and work side by side with you to teach you how to have your environment be in line with your priorities. We coach and guide you through the tough decisions and will not encourage you to keep things that you don’t like or that no longer fit in your life. However, final decision-making authority belongs to you. We do not believe that having an organized home means having a perfect home. Being a disorganized clutterbug has its costs, and being a perfectionist does too.

Will My Major Organizers® Organizer Work Side By Side With Me, From Afar, Or Just Do The Work For Me?

This depends on your needs and preferences. We can get you results either way. We work side by side with most clients, so we can teach you the organizing process and you can learn new skills and strategies. De-cluttering and organizing requires a lot of decisions that you will need to make, and the job gets done quickest when you are fully present. We also have Virtual Organizing available where we do not have to be on site to help you. This may be a good fit if you are naturally an organized person but you have just moved, your household has gotten a little cluttered, or things are chaotic because of your travel schedule, and you may simply need some advice or insight. For some jobs, you could show us your space via photos or webcam, answer our assessment questions, and then we can guide you during the entire organizing process.

What Are Some Of The Results I Should Expect?

To be able to find things when you need them. Once everything has a designated “home” within your home or office finding things quickly is the result. Living in an orderly household relieves stress and makes room for peace and happiness. Perhaps you’ll find you have more time since getting rid of excess clutter eliminates 40% of the housework in an average home. (Source: Institute of Cleaning). Disorganization often creates tension in marriages, and arguments may diminish as your space becomes less cluttered and more functional. We work with children to set up systems they buy in to, so there isn’t the need for arguments over where things go. A positive change of your physical surroundings initiates a positive change in your mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.

It depends on how severe the illness or disorder is, which can often be determined from an initial phone consultation or in person estimate. If, however, we are on-site working with someone that is beyond our skill set and expertise, we will stop the session and wrap up. We will then refer the individual to a specialist or we will bring a specialist with us during the organizing. We are committed to creating solutions for you so you can enjoy your home and your life. It is important to note that we are not certified to work with Level 4 and Level 5 hoarding.

You do not need to clean or pick up prior to our free estimate. In fact, it is best that we see the home in its natural state, so we can get a full understanding of your situation. We do ask, however, that any sexually explicit photos, books, magazine, or other items be removed or placed in a location where the organizer will not be working. This helps to prevent uncomfortable or embarrassing situations for both you and the organizer. We also ask you to ensure that any guns or other weapons are not within reach of our organizers. Please advise the organizer of the presence and locations of any weapons.
